The Wednesday Word is back - groak
After many thousands of emails, pleadings and requests, I
have finally given in – The Wednesday Word is back.
Today’s word is ‘groak’. I have been unable to find out its
derivation or background, and by its appearance, it would be very unlikely you
could work out what it means.
But rather playfully, it means to look at or stare longingly,
especially at someone who is eating (whether at another table or through a
window).
Here is my quote for it:
“Fido had perfected the ancient art of groaking, which he
did throughout the meal. But being the cruel man that I am, I was determined
not to give him any.”
Check out the original Wednesday Word, or many other Wednesday Words here.
Feel free to let me know if you ever come across a word you
think may be appropriate for this part of my blog.
