Nomophobia - The Wednesday Word
Today's word is nomophobia, a noun meaning the fear of losing or being without your mobile phone
I discovered the word from an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, and apparently the fear is on the rise - a whopping 66 per cent of people surveyed in the UK say they fear losing or being without their phone.
Now I will be the first to admit that I have a certain fondness for my phone, but I don't really fear being without it. Perhaps I would be pretty annoyed losing it, or be stuck not having it by my side 23 hours and 45 minutes a day, but not fear.
Here is my quote for it:
“Are we clear?
Yes Doctor.
Ok. Quickly. Let's try again.
It just wasn't working, and Sally was slowly coming to the sad realisation that her mobile phone battery was dead. The nomophobia was setting in.”
