The Wednesday Word - voluntourism
Today's word is voluntourism, a noun meaning taking a holiday (or part of a trip) and participating in activities centered around furthering a charitable cause. In most cases, the traveler pays for the trip, and a portion of the trip fee may go to the charitable cause..
Here is a quote for it from this article:
"But lately, an increasing number of travellers are looking for something more, a way to spend those hard-earned bucks on more than just pina coladas and foot rubs. That something has been awkwardly dubbed "voluntourism" - or, doing volunteer work while travelling."
