Let no man put us under
Until very recently I had always been confused by the phrase at weddings "What god has joined together let no man put asunder".
The primary difficulty I had was because I had only ever heard the phrase and not read it, and had assumed what was said was "What god has joined together let no man put us under".
As a result I couldn't for the life of me work out why at a wedding people would be making sure that no man be put under marriage.
After learning that it was not "us under" but 'asunder' and then discovering that asunder actually means to separate, or to tear apart, it made much more sense.
Life little mystery number 394 now solved.
