My wife and I were recently in a book store and saw a book entitled "1001 books to read before you die". She commented in a rather philosophical way "I wonder if that book, the "1001 books to read before you die" book, is one of the 1001 books to read before you die".
Neither of us looked inside, so we don't know, but just thought it was interesting.

It's a hugely popular book and although very few of us are attempting to read it all before we die, it's a great guide to what has made the novel what it is. If you're into novels that is...
