Two thousand years ago, a baby was born among animals in the back shed of a pub, survived a kingly decree for his murder, grew up in a relatively unknown part of the Roman Empire, worked as a tradesman, claimed he was God, made wild predictions about his death, and yet somehow became the most revered teacher of all time. He helped the poor, cured the sick, fed the hungry, showed strength through suffering, love through sacrifice, mercy through justice, and ultimately gave his life as a ransom for many. Is it still necessary to ask why Christians celebrate Christmas?
