Having heard him in person and read several of his books, I have come to the conclusion that John Shelby Spong presents the message of Christianity in the same way that radio shock jocks present the news – scandalous, one-sided, and unsupported ("An iconoclast gathers his heretical flock", August 16). While he raises many important problems surrounding “institutional Christianity”, his message that we should all just love each other a bit more is both naïve and unworkable. Let us respect Spong for highlighting the problems, but acknowledge the limitations of his solutions.
